Discover the Spirit of Wine in the Heart of Silver Spring
Wine isn’t just a drink. It’s history, culture, and community—and at The Urban Winery of Silver Spring in Silver Spring, MD, it’s an experience you can taste, create, and share. We bring the art of winemaking closer to home, offering a unique setting where curiosity meets craftsmanship.
Why Wine Matters More Than Ever
People have gathered over wine for thousands of years—for celebrations, for comfort, and for connection. At The Urban Winery, we keep that tradition alive while reimagining it for today. Our wines are made onsite using grapes sourced from local and regional vineyards. Whether you're sipping at the bar, filling a growler, or joining a tour, you’re not just buying wine—you’re joining a story.
We’re open five days a week with flexible hours, walk-in access, and indoor and outdoor seating. From
tasting classes and live music to our one-of-a-kind
educational wine tours, there’s always something new to experience. Planning an outing with friends?
Reservations are recommended for groups of five or more.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the Urban Winery grow their grapes?
As anource rather than grow our own grapes. Our urban winery, we have made the choice to s
The winemaker has a relationship with a number of growers and sources about 85% of our grapes locally.
Not all grape varietals will grow well in Maryland’s climate, so we do source some grapes and juice from
farther afield.
Are Urban Winery wines vegan?
Yes. All of our wines are vegan; we do not use any animal products in the winemaking process.
Why do some Urban Winery wines have Greek names?
The Greek names of some of our wines represent family values. They honor winemaker Georgia Callis’
Father Anthony “Bole,” who brought those values, along with his traditional winemaking skills, with him when he emigrated from Greece and passed them down to his daughter and son-in-law, who are now passing them down to their children.
Do you carry wines from Greece?
Yes, and many other countries with a long history of wine production are, for some reason, underrepresented on wine lists and in wine shops in favor of mass-produced, heavily marketed brands. Visit us to find something just a little different to pour tonight.
Is the Urban Winery a chain?
No. The Urban Winery is an independent, family-run winery. The word “urban” refers to the location, not out in the countryside as many wineries are, and has become very popular in other business names as well.
Do you carry other products besides wine?
Yes. The Urban Winery’s main focus is on wine, and we carry over 30 wines that we produce here at the winery. We also carry a number of other Maryland wineries and an eclectic assortment of international wines, but if you are feeling like drinking something else this evening, there are other options. We also feature Maryland craft brews and local distillery products in our tasting room and in the wine shop. You won’t find any international mass-produced brands here, though, and we do not offer traditional bar-style cocktail service in our tasting room.
Can we bring our own food?
No outside food or beverages may be brought in or consumed on our premises.
